5 Simple Ways To Practice Self-Love

‘Tis the season of love! While the mainstream media largely focuses on pushing romantic-type-love during this time of year...we resonate with focusing on pure love in all its forms. And where does pure love stem from? Our selves! We are able to love others and share our love with the world in the most pure and meaningful way when we fully love our selves and work on maintaining that self-love perpetually. 


With busy schedules and demanding lifestyles, however, it can be easy to lose sight of our own self-love… In this article, I want to share with you five simple ways you can practice self-love any day and anytime. 

 

Daily Self-Loving Affirmations


This suggestion is simple in theory but can be so easy to forget! Think about your natural tendencies when you go to the bathroom and look in the mirror. Typically we instantly focus on “what’s wrong” or “is anything off that I can fix?” or “is something in my teeth?” or “oh sh*t my skin/hair/outfit/etc. looks so bad today…” 


Try changing the script! At least one time per day, give yourself self-loving affirmations instead of focusing on the negatives or imbalances in what you see. Speak from the heart, be completely genuine, and repeat it several times in a row while looking at yourself in the mirror. 


Even if you only genuinely love your right pinky finger that day, tell yourself how beautiful, strong, and incredible that pinky finger is! Eventually, you will start to love more aspects of yourself and the affirmations will just start rolling out when you see your reflection.

Nurturing Your Body Temple


Yes, that’s right: your body is a temple and deserves to be treated like one! It is easy to fall in a rut of only doing the bare minimum when it comes to self-loving body care. Start with adding just one self-love practice for your body that truly feels nurturing to you. Nourishing Yourself With Soul Food


How often do you rush through cooking a meal just to get it over with? Or make a “so so” meal just because you have the ingredients on hand and you don’t feel like going to the store? While there’s nothing wrong with eating this way in a pinch, it is important to reserve time to prepare and ENJOY nourishing food that sings to your soul on a weekly basis. 


Remember the exact types of food might differ from one person to another. Just feel into your body’s intuition of what it needs to be truly nourished - not just what you impulsively want. Then take the time to prepare this meal for yourself and savor every bite. Clear out any distractions while eating and just allow your soul to be nourished by the meal you have created. Even though we eat every day, rarely do we make time to prepare a meal fostered on self-love. When you start doing this intentionally, your body will thank you. 

 

   

Building a Self-Love Ritual Bath


Ritual bathing is truly one of our FAVORITE self-love practices for all of us here at Alpine Botanicals! Once you build yourself a self-love ritual bath once...you will start dreaming of new ways to bath and nourish yourself in the tub. A ritual bath is not just your average soak. Adorn the sides of your tub with candles, crystals, and incense or set-up your essential oil diffuser in the bathroom. Play with adding different salts, magnesium flakes, or herbal bath teas (like our Garden Bath tea) into your tub as its filling with hot water.

Carving out the time for your...Self.


This might be the most important step of them all! If you don’t carve out the actual time in your schedule to practice self-love, then it can easily be forgotten or overshadowed by our to-do lists. When you are first striving to build a self-love ritual on a weekly or daily basis, it is so helpful (and almost crucial) to actually schedule it into your calendar. Set alerts on your phone to remind you. Schedule in your self-love bath or soul food preparation time and let others know you are not available during that time period! 


Maybe even put your phone on “do not disturb” if you can…You will receive SO much more out of your self-love practices if you really devote that time to loving on your SELF. And yourself only. Remember: scheduling time for your self-love practices is a form of self-love in itself!!
