Easy Mood-Boosting Herbal Tonic Recipe

New year, new you, … new tonic! There is nothing more refreshing than enjoying a revitalizing herbal tonic, especially one that can help boost and stabilize your mood. Although the New Year can bring a surge of inspiration and energy to “start fresh” toward achieving personal goals, it is also connected with the end of the holiday season for many, and the need to “get serious” about work and life responsibilities. It’s easy to let this newfound pressure negatively affect our mental and emotional health. 


But it doesn’t have to! Especially when you draw from herbal allies, nutritional changes, and lifestyle practices to help tend to your mental health and keep your moods stabilized through the process. In this article, I want to share with you one of my favorite mood-boosting herbal tonic recipes that is SUPER easy to prepare daily or when you need a pick-me-up! Read on to learn a little bit about one of my best herbal allies for supporting a healthy mood and how to make an easy mood-boosting herbal tonic with it at home. 


Meet “The Happiness Tree”

Yes, another common name for the featured herb in this herbal tonic recipe actually is “the happiness tree!” Albizia (Mimosa julibrissin), aka “the happiness tree,” can help make you feel happy when you take an extract from its bark, leaf, or flower. PLUS it makes me pretty darn happy by just looking at its bright pink pom-pom flowers, full of life-brining energy and pure happiness. 


So what does albizia really do for the body? Albizia can help increase and regulate neurotransmitter function and secretions, including naturally boosting our dopamine levels! Dopamine is well-known as our “happiness” or “feel-good” hormone in the body. While helping us actively “feel-good,” albizia is also helping calm the spirits and nervous system, serving as a lovely herbal ally to support acute anxious moments. 


In addition, albizia is considered a “heart exhilarant” herb. What does this mean exactly? Well, think about when you’re feeling extremely stressed out, anxious, or worried. We tend to tense up our shoulders and curl forward, congesting all of this energy around the heart. Albizia helps to re-circulate that energy again. To uplift the spirits and get this tense, stagnant, fear-based energy moving again.

Easy Mood-Boosting Herbal Tonic Recipe


1 dropperful (~30 drops) of Albizia (Mimosa julibrissin) liquid extract (we carry one from Herb Pharm at Alpine Botanicals)

1 cup of Rowdy Mermaid Alpine Lavender kombucha (or another kombucha of choice)

1 sprig of fresh lavender or a pinch of dried lavender blossoms

Optional: A couple of ice cubes 


  1. Combine the Albizia extract, kombucha, and ice (if using) in a cocktail shaker or mason jar. Cover with the lid and shake until well combined.
  2. Pour your herbal tonic into the drinking glass of your choice.
  3. Garnish with a sprig of fresh lavender or a pinch of dried lavender blossoms.
  4. Cheers + enjoy!
