Do you have computer neck? Is your neck killing you after a full day of sitting in front of your technology?
If so, you are not alone, my friend!
Two of the biggest contributors of pain symptoms in our modern day world are 1) lack of movement and 2) stress.
And sitting in front of a work computer all day, expertly blends those two triggers together.
One of the best ways I’ve found to reduce tension in my neck is this simple exercise below.
Not only does it help my neck, but it also gives my chest a good stretch, and it squeezes tension from my traps and from between my shoulder blades.
If you’re a computer-worker, you will absolutely love this.
The goal is to keep your neck muscles as relaxed as possible, and let the movement of your head come from the motion of your hands (all of this is explained in the video).
We are working to train your nervous system to relax while going through this motion. We want it to think that this movement is safe, so it realizes that it no longer needs to send pain signals your way.
By doing this, you’re allowing your neck to move in a new way. The pain and stiffness you’ve been feeling may very well not be there with this exercise.
NOTE: If you are experiencing pain with this exercise, back off a bit. Just move to the edge of the pain, not through it. The goal is to be able to move your head pain free, further and further, with repeated practice.
