Frankincense Essential Oil - Savitur Botanicals
There are over 24 species of Frankincense. To harvest, the frankincense tree is cut, or ‘scarred,’ on the trunk causing the sap to ooze out. The sap is then hardened and is burned or steam distilled into an essential oil. Please note the differences in the two Frankincense essential varieties we carry from Savitur Botanicals:
- Frankincense, Serrata (Boswellia serrata) is the most common species used in Ayurveda and burned in Catholic churches as incense. Frankincense has a wonderfully calming effect on the emotions, helps to reduce anxiety and relieve stress. It is balsamic and spicy with a citrus undertone.
- Frankincense, Carterii (Boswellia carteri) is the most intense for perfumery.. a little goes a very long way! The rich velvety scent is calming and supporting at the same time. A rich aroma that is sweet and fruity, with a delicate balsamic and precious woods undertone.
