Learn about the local plants growing here this summer with certified herbalist and medicinal plant conservationist, Crested Butte Wildflower Festival ID guide, Colorado native and our manager at Alpine Botanicals, Katy Able.
Plants tell us so much about the ecosystems in which we live. And WE live in such an amazing place! Where and how plants are growing is one of the many languages that we as humans seem to overlook. But, it wasn't always so and these skills are a part of our evolution. Learning how to read the land and identify the plants growing around you is a beautiful and necessary part of using local plants. It is from here that we learn how to responsibly harvest, mimic nature in our gardens and get excited to formulate something wonderful... here, and with our noses in field guides and medicine making books.
All of the locations for the plant walks have been chosen and are all within a few miles of downtown Nederland, CO. These locations may change as the dates get closer depending on how abundant the plant populations are at that time. We will meet at the Alpine Botanicals apothecary on the mornings of the plant walks and carpool/caravan to the plant walk destination that has been chosen for the week. The plant walks are all projected to be an hour and half long, but we have left 2 hours total to allow for traveling time and questions. Bring a notebook, sun protection and bug repellent.
We will be identifying and discussing the array of plants that we will be seeing, including those that can be used as foods and medicines. If you would like to learn more about such useful plants after the plant walks, an evening classroom session is being offered for this purpose.
Morning Plant Walks are $15 per person per walk, and the evening classroom sessions are $20 per person per class. If you would like to take all of the plant walks and classroom sessions, none will be the same so you are welcome to do so. We are offering this as a series for $90
